Having a good business plan to attract the investor is key, however, it is as important to have a well-thought-out so-called Pitch Deck, or shortened business plan. Every investor will usually want to see your Pitch, which, as mentioned, is a short version of your Business Plan in which you should attract the investor. For several years now, the trend in business plans has been “the shorter, the better” - business plans are written in a very concise and clear way. If your project doesn’t get the investor’s attention within the first several slides, they are very likely not going to be interested in reading the whole 80-page-long business plan. Doing a Pitch Deck is thus the way to go.

What does the Pitch Deck consist of?

Project/ Problem description In the introduction, it is necessary to describe what your project deals with and what (current) problem or potential it responds to. It is ideal to describe and explain the current state/problem/potential.

Target Group/ Market In this section, you will explain how wide the market for your product is, who your target group is, or what the scalability of your project is. It is quite crucial to communicate whether your project is aimed at a small target group or the local market or whether it aims at a wider population and can be used all over the world.

Problem solution This is one of the key points of the whole Pitch Deck. In this section, you answer the introductory question - how your project solves the problem and consequently why the market needs your project/solution or product.

Marketing plan/ Sales plan Even if you have the perfect project with huge business potential, you can't do without a quality marketing and sales strategy. The idea itself, without concrete plans on how to monetize it, is, unfortunately, useless.

Competition While you may be certain that your project is unique, there is a good chance that the same or very similar thing has been done before. It is necessary to do a thorough analysis of the market and highlight what exactly differentiates you from the competition.

Team This is something that the investors care about a lot. They want to know who is the mind behind the project, as it is you who they will invest their money into and who they need to trust. Do not underestimate the description of individual team members.

Financial plan You need to have your numbers sorted if you want to be taken seriously by the investors. Although no one expects you to estimate and calculate spreadsheets for the next 10 years, presenting a well-crafted budget/ financial plan for a year or two, with growth assumptions, is key.

Offer to Investor/ Investment Breakdown In this section, you describe what you offer to the investor for the required amount. What should not be missing is the breakdown of the required investment, that is how you plan to use the invested money. It is quite clear that every investor will want to know how his money will be spent.
